Your first appointment will include a comprehensive consultation.
A medical history will be taken, along with observations to enable us to understand your
individual needs and decide the treatment that is most suitable for you.
Advice on care and treatment of skin and nails will be covered.
This includes problems like suspected Fungal nail infections, Athlete's Foot, Verrucae, Diabetic foot checks.
Depending on the outcome of your assessment your treatment may
involve nail cutting & filing, callus & corn removal, thickened nails reduced, conservative treatment of ingrowing toenails.
Alternatively, you may require exercises, cryotherapy, specific advice or a
GP referral.
Depending on your needs a follow up appointment may be required to complete your treatment.

Depending on your nail, you may be advised to use a PACT Med kit that you use at home for 2 weeks prior to starting treatment. The kit costs £30 to purchase.
Fungal nails can present themselves as being discoloured, yellow or brown and nails can be crumbly, unhealthy, and unsightly looking. Fungal nails are sometimes associated with an odour from the contaminated nail(s). The sufferer is often embarrassed and unwilling to wear open footwear as a result.
It's important to know that the fungal condition will not disappear without treatment!
The affected nail(s) contain a fungal spore that becomes embedded in the layers of the nail and nail bed, which means that they're challenging to treat and cure. These fungal spores are highly contagious and can spread to other healthy nails and skin if not treated quickly. It can lead to athlete’s foot or fungal skin conditions.
The nail light therapy will initially be a course of 3 treatments within 1 week with 1 follow-up treatment and depending on the severity of the fungal nail infection will require further treatments but this will be discussed with you at your initial appointment.
Toenails grow on average 15mm a month. As a result, it takes at least three months for the treatment to be visibly noticeable, and 12 to 18 months for the nail to fully grow out.

The human nail is waterproof so that it can protect your nail bed. The fungus resides underneath the toenail in the nail bed, so that’s where the treatment needs to be applied.
What is the Lacuna Method®?
The Lacuna Method™ is a treatment for fungal nails that involves drilling micro-holes painlessly into the damaged nails.
Creating micro holes in the nail plate allows the liquid treatment to penetrate down to the nail bed, and start destroying the infection at the root.
You can then continue to apply the anti-fungal medication at home, allowing the nail to grow out healthy.
A review appointment should be booked for 4- 6 weeks, where further micro holes will be drilled if necessary and treatment applied. This is repeated until the infection is cleared.

Patient must provide sample bottle or envelope for samples, as every GP practice has their own system in place.
DRESSING APPOINTMENT
You may have to attend a dressing appointment.
At this appointment your old dressing will be removed and your wound will be checked to see if healing is as expected.
Your wound will then redress.
